Price left a gap. I’ll be waiting when it comes back.

Akane looks for fair value gaps: places where price moved so fast it skipped over a level and left a hole between candles. She waits for price to return into that gap and trades the reaction, with her stop just past it.

Trading the opening range

Opening range breakout exampleFive-minute candles. The first three candles set a range. Price chops inside it, then a candle closes above the range high, which is the entry. The stop sits at the range low and the target is one range height above the high.   1. Mark the rangeRecord the high and low of a set window after the 9:30 ET open, often the first 15 or 30 minutes.
  2. Wait for the breakDo nothing while price chops inside. The signal is a 5-minute candle closing above the high or below the low.
  3. Manage the tradeThe stop goes on the far side of the range. The target is a multiple of the range height.

Momentum Pulse

Time-Based Long

  1. Pick the windowChoose an entry time and an exit time, and backtest them on past data before trading them.
  2. Buy on the clockGo long at the entry time, whatever the chart looks like in that moment.
  3. Sell on the clockClose at the exit time. The stop protects the trade if the day turns against it first.

Trading the fair value gap

Fair value gap exampleCandles rally hard, leaving a gap between the high of one candle and the low of the candle two bars later. Price later pulls back into that gap, which is the entry, with a stop below the gap and a target at the recent high.   1. Spot the gapFind three candles where the first candle’s high and the third candle’s low don’t overlap. That empty space is the fair value gap.
  2. Wait for the retestLet price pull back into the gap instead of chasing the move.
  3. Trade the reactionEnter inside the gap with a stop just beyond it, aiming for the recent high.

Set it up in four steps

  1. Connect your prop accountLink the Tradovate login your prop firm gave you for the evaluation or funded account.
  2. Choose and backtest a strategyPick Shion, Hina or Tokiko and test the rules on past data with the contract and size you plan to trade.
  3. Match your firm’s rulesSet the daily loss limit and position cap a little inside your firm’s limits, and turn on end-of-day and end-of-week flattening.
  4. Switch on autotradingStart the live monitor. Signals become orders on every linked account, and you can pause it at any time.

Check your firm’s rules first. Prop firms set their own policies on automated trading, and some limit or don’t allow it on certain account types. Make sure automation is permitted on your account before you switch it on. Trailing drawdown and consistency rules are tracked by your firm, so keep an eye on them too.
